A little #introduction to some of my wandering in churches - the monument to Elizabeth Russell at Westminster Abbey. Elizabeth sits on a wicker chair with her foot resting on a skull - a reminder of her death and our own mortality. She was a maid of honour to Queen Elizabeth I but died at a young age of consumption in 1601. The monument reads ‘she is not dead but sleepeth’ #MementoMori #Tudors #churches #monuments #histodons #history
